The story follows the unlikely friendship between Elphaba and Glinda, two clashing witches in the magical land of Oz. The film serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, exploring the backstory of the characters before Dorothy's arrival. The rest of the cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Keala Settle, Bronwyn James, Adam James, and Bowen Yang. The film will be released in two parts, with Part One premiering in the US on November 27, 2024, and Part Two premiering on November 26, 2025.
