Vampire Diaries Spinoff To Be Introduced During April Episode

, with its supernatural bent, has become one of the CW’s most popular series. Realizing this, it should really be no surprise that the network would want to pursue a spin-off series, featuring some of cast members and an 'original' vampire clan.

Called , the new program will follow The Vampire Diaries’ Klaus, played by . If you’ve ever caught the CW’s vampire-oriented program, you may already know that Klaus hails from New Orleans, Louisiana, where an 'original' clan of vampires still resides. According to

, when Klaus returns to the French Quarter in New Orleans, he will run into a vampire named Marcel, whom he formerly taught, but has now taken on an evil attitude. The Vampire Diaries’ Julie Plec will executive produce and write the pilot.

Deadline is also noting that Phoebe Tonkin will take a lead role in the new series, playing the werewolf character she has played during episodes of The Vampire Diaries, so the new program should be fully inhabiting the world already established in The CW’s currently running program. The CW is smartly going to introduce The Originals in a backdoor pilot during an episode of The Vampire Diaries to see if the series is well-received by viewers and critics. The characters in The Originals will be introduced during the April 25 episode of The Vampire Diaries, so if you have any interest in the potential series, the backdoor pilot would be a good time to tune in.
