2024/04/03

The University of Kentucky is mourning the loss of one of its own, Kate Kaufling, a talented member of the dance team, who tragically passed away at the age of 20 after a courageous battle with cancer. The Wildcats athletic department announced her death, revealing that the sophomore student-athlete succumbed to osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer, just months after completing chemotherapy.

Kate, who was studying nursing and had a perfect 4.0 GPA, was described by her coach as brave and inspirational throughout her fight. She and her twin sister, Abbey, were both part of the UK Dance Team.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Kate's parents with the financial burden of medical expenses and travel to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where she received treatment.

The outpouring of support and donations from the community has been overwhelming, with over $97k raised so far. Kate's memory will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, Kate Kaufling.
