Marlee Matlin 'Shocked' ASL Interpreters Got Almost No Super Bowl Screen Time
2024/02/12

Fans were left disappointed during Sunday's Super Bowl game as the ASL interpreters, who were introduced before the broadcast, were virtually ignored throughout. Notably, actress Marlee Matlin expressed her shock and disappointment at this decision. While the ASL performance during Andra Day's rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" received some screen time, the performances for Post Malone's "America the Beautiful" and Reba McEntire's national anthem were completely left out. Matlin took to social media to express her frustration, stating that CBS had broken a tradition of showcasing the ASL performances for the past 30 years.

The performances were available to watch online, but fans questioned why they weren't incorporated into the broadcast. Suggestions were made for a picture-in-picture or side-by-side display for inclusivity. Many viewers felt let down by the lack of representation for the ASL interpreters and called for improvement in future broadcasts.
