“I’d go against Stephen Curry because I'm a little bit bigger than him” — Michael Jordan explains why he'd rather take on Steph Curry 1-on-1 instead of LeBron James
09/03/2023

Now that  has cemented his legacy as a 4-time NBA champion, 2-time MVP, and one of the most notable players to change the game of basketball, it's fair already to include him in the top 10 all-time conversations. Curry is a generational and legendary talent, and the best part about his career is that it's far from done.

Given Curry's impact and resume, some analysts (ahem, ) and even former players like  have even gone as far as crowning him and putting him in the same conversation as Michael Jordan and LeBron James — as one of the greatest players of all time.

Michael Jordan once said he could easily beat Curry

If there's someone that has every right to chime in the GOAT debate, it's no other than MJ. When Mike was  who he'd rather go up against, Curry or James, he didn't hesitate to say that he could easily beat the  in a 1-on-1 matchup.

also claimed that he'd likely do the same to James if he were in his prime. In an interview recorded in 2019, Jordan talked about why he would demolish Curry and James and even boldly claimed that the greatest shooter of all time wasn't a Hall-of-Fame candidate yet.

"" Jordan . "" Jordan said.

It's important to point out that this interview took place in 2019 because two years after, Curry said that Jordan took his word back when they met face-to-face and  that the Warriors superstar is indeed a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer. What Jordan probably didn't take back was his take on being able to beat  and Curry in a 1-on-1 game.

Curry believes he's better than Mike and LeBron

Ironically, Curry was also  if he thinks he's now better than Jordan and James were during their prime. The Chef confidently admitted that he'd pick himself over the two all-time great players, which given how rightfully competitive he is, wasn't a surprise to hear at all.

Ultimately, it's difficult to blame Jordan and Curry for picking themselves over anyone. LeBron would probably do the same. That's just how much these legends believe in themselves, and they have every right to because of how great they are in their own right.

While it's fun to hear each of them share their thoughts on who would win a hypothetical matchup, it's safe to assume that it will never happen — for Jordan against anybody, at least. The least we can all do is appreciate each player's greatness and how much joy they've given to basketball fans worldwide.
