Super Rugby Pacific to trial law combatting ‘Dupont’s law’ and ‘kick-tennis’
2024/02/13

The 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season is set to introduce new laws aimed at reducing territorial kicking battles and promoting more running in the game. The tournament has a history of innovation, having trialled laws such as the 20-minute red card in previous years. Kevin Malloy, the chair of the competition, explained that this year's changes were made in response to feedback from stakeholders, with the aim of creating a more exciting and enjoyable game for fans and players. The modifications target the onside rules in territorial kicking situations, aiming to prevent teams from exploiting loopholes and encourage more attacking rugby. Malloy also highlighted the importance of giving fans the kind of rugby they want to watch.
