Paul Wesley's Flop Horror Is So Bad We'd Rather Binge The Vampire Diaries Instead
2024/02/28

History of Evil, released in 2024, is a horror movie that fell short on all fronts. The storyline revolves around a family fleeing for their lives, only to be faced with looming danger. Unfortunately, the horror elements in the film failed to impress fans eagerly awaiting a new spine-chilling experience. Every horror enthusiast anticipates a fresh scare, yet with each new release, the genre’s appeal seems to wane. Despite high expectations due to Paul Wesley's involvement in the film, History of Evil was deemed a major disappointment. Critics panned the movie, resulting in a dismal 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The storyline, penned and directed by Bo Mirhosseni, is set in a dystopian future in 2045 where America is depicted as a frightening world dominated by white supremacists and evangelical extremists. The protagonists, Ron (portrayed by Wesley), along with his daughter Daria and wife Alegre, seek refuge in a supposedly abandoned safe haven, only to discover its sinister secrets. Viewers criticized the weak character development, lackluster plot, and minimal scares, making it difficult to engage with the narrative. The subdued reception of History of Evil may prompt Wesley’s fans to return to his earlier successful ventures, such as The Vampire Diaries, for a more satisfying viewing experience. Interested viewers can revisit the beloved vampire tale on MAX for a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
