“They’d Be Giving It To LeBron James”: Gilbert Arenas Believes the NBA Would Crown LBJ The MVP If Not For One Reason
2024/04/08

As the regular season nears its conclusion, the panelists at Gil’s Arena debated which players could hoist the 2024 Michael Jordan trophy. While Nikola Jokic was the consensus choice, Gilbert Arenas and Rashad McCants discussed the main obstacle preventing LeBron James from winning the MVP award. McCants suggested that James would be in the running if the Lakers were a top 5 team in the West. Arenas took it a step further, stating James could win if the Lakers finished in the top 2.

LeBron James is having an impressive season, averaging 25.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game. However, players like Jokic, Doncic, Gilgeous-Alexander, Antetokounmpo, and Tatum have more eye-catching stats.

Anthony Davis is also having a standout season, with strong numbers in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks per game. Had the Lakers finished as a top team, Davis might have been a contender for the MVP award.

Arenas faced criticism for his comments on Jokic, calling him the worst MVP winner in recent history. Despite this, Jokic's impressive statistics and the Nuggets' success make him a likely candidate for the 2024 MVP award. If Jokic wins, he will join a select group of players with at least 3 MVP trophies in NBA history.
